【Touring Ports on the Nemuro Peninsula】
<February 18, 2026>

I made a full tour of the ports on the Nemuro Peninsula.
While Steller's Sea Eagles and White-tailed Eagles were slightly fewer, they could still be seen at ports and on utility poles.
From the hide at Cape Nosappu, I was able to leisurely observe seabirds like Spectacled Guillemot and Pigeon Guillemot.

<2026/1/7>

The freezing of the river flowing into Lake Furen has finally progressed.
Nets for ice-fishing at the river mouth have been set, and fishing seems to be starting little by little.
The number of eagles in the surrounding forests has increased.

Upon closer inspection, I spotted a Japanese Accentor and a Daurian Redstart.

Birdwatching around the harbour offers not only seabirds but also encounters with small birds like these, making it one of the joys of winter.

【Lake Furen  <Western Area>】
<November 7, 2025>

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the registration of ‘Furen Lake and Shunkokutai’ as a Ramsar Convention wetland.
The environment has changed significantly due to land subsidence and the accompanying storms and storm surges.
The movements and numbers of wild birds have also changed due to these shifts and changes in surrounding industries.
Today, we observed Asian Rosy Finch, Steller's Eagles, and Whooper Swans.

<September 20, 2025>

Searched for Whooper Swans in the grasslands and harvested dent corn fields around Lake Furen.

Initially confirmed over 250 birds, but more and more flew in over time, eventually reaching over 1,249 birds.

They all took flight toward their roost around sunset.
